Yes, American Village. We have been here just over 3 weeks now, and our first trip off base to explore was to the American Village in Chatan Town, Okinawa. It's about a 10 minute drive from our base and features a giant ferris wheel and lots of American themed shops and restaurants. Tho we did see some Indian and Asian restaurants in the Carnival Park building. We also visited the Dragon Palace which was nice and air conditioned, with a large dragon clinging to the center rod of the building, it was filled with more shops.
The entire village is an outdoor shopping mall. It was fun walking between the narrow alleys between shops as we window shopped. They were also shaded, so it offered some respite from the sun, if barely the heat. On the far side of the village is Sunset Beach.
We looked around a bit, but didn't have swim suits with us so we didn't get to swim. We plan on heading back this or next weekend to do just that tho. The water is netted off in it's own cove so we don't have to worry about waves or jelly fish. It had a resort feel to it, and shops lined the boardwalk too. I can picture myself visiting often during the next few years.
